BMW commences Hydrogen Fuel Cell Production in Munich

BMW is marching on with their AFV (Alternative Fuel Vehicle) strategy with includes mass production in the future as it has revealed it will be building a small fleet of iX5 Hydrogen SUV’s (which initially will be used for global testing and demonstration purposes).

BMW believes that hydrogen power will sit perfectly alongside battery-electric vehicles (BEV) and will complete the elextric mobility picture.

Hydrogen cars are not a new concept, Toyota launched its Mirai but sold 6 units in 2021 and only 3 so far in 2022.

With those sales figures, there is clearly some distance to travel but its still a move in the right direction and we believe its great to see the major manufacturers really ramping up their manufacturing capabilities for things like PHEV, BEV and Hydrogen Fuel Cell vehicles – the pace of change is significant – let’s see if the infrastructure can keep up with the growth!
